Here's a shrine dedicated to my pride and joy, my webcomic Star Quest!!!

Star Quest is a comic about space traveling aliens saving their universe from a vengeful deity who wants to destroy it. It's heavily inspired by the Kirby series, the webcomic Cucumber Quest, with bits and pieces of DELTARUNE. It's a story that I've been developing since late 2011 and means a lot to me!

You can read Star Quest on it's site HERE!! You can also read it on Comic Fury as well!

Under construction! Check back later!

Here's a handful of my favourite pages from Star Quest.

Concept/Development

Star Quest started out as a small story idea in October 2011, about a kid who wanted to explore space! Where do I even begin with this? Star Quest has changed a LOT since its first conception, so let's go through all of them!

October 2011: The Beginning

This is where it all began! If memory serves right, I believe this was entirely about Kris (then named Probe) taking a starship his dad made across the many galaxies of the universe. This was initially a video game concept that didn't quite get off the ground.

These were the first initial drawings of Kris!

2012: Attack on Azmorfa / Azlonian Space Adventures

At this point, I chose for Star Quest (named Azlonian Space Adventures at the time) to be a story I could tell. Kris got a whole new design along with Twizzle and Purvall. The plot of ASA was was actually a little different- in fact it was the second story in a whole trilogy!

The plot of ASA was basically that a mad scientist (not really mad, just frustrated) named Dr. Haletis was building robots and sending them to various planets, destroying everything in its vicinity. This was a part of the story that I held onto for a very, very long time, even trying to weave it into later versions- but more on that later.

The trilogy I wanted to write for Star Quest was massive. It started on planet Azmorfa where Kris, Twizzle, and Purvall stopped a band of space pirates from pillaging their planet. The second story in the trilogy was ASA, and the third story was something of a time travel plot. Honestly I don't remember much of this one haha.

2013-2015: The Light Stars Adventure / Adventure Squad

Around this moment I'd become comfortable with what I had for ASA. It was also craaaaazy long. I also created Byn and Jen's Quest (Prisma Paintbrush) at this same time and...actually liked the plot of that one more than the one I had for ASA. So in 2015, I merged the two stories!

So now, the plot was this GIANT epic where Kris and his friends traveled around the universe, collecting star pieces known as Light Stars (at the time), which will defeat Dark Energy, the deity that broke free from their prison that kept them sealed. I still had the trilogy idea in mind for about a couple years and this version of Star Quest was the last in the series.

Also at this time Star Quest had a MASSIVE ensemble cast. Like this is wild.

Kris, Twizzle, Purvall, Renny, AJ, Candy, Banana, and Grape plus many more were part of the main cast.

This is, for the most part, the version of Star Quest (named The Light Stars Adventure at the time) that's similar to its current version! I also did finish a summary of this story, with 60+ chapters too! At this time I tried to weave in the robot apocalypse plot with the Dark Energy plot, and even threw in a subplot with the space pirates from the first iteration of Star Quest. Basically the story evolved into this giant epic of a story and I had a lot of fun writing the summary for each and every chapter at the time lol. This is around the time where I knew I wanted SQ to be a webcomic (especially after discovering and reading Cucumber Quest in 2013- one of SQ's biggest inspirations)- but there was oneeee issue....

2015-2021: Reset

The length.

I loooove webcomics, I love creating, talking about them, and reading them too. But one thing that makes me shriek is seeing the size of those lads. As a comic, it would be unsustainable. So after rewrite after rewrite, I shrunk down the comic more and more until it became somewhat manageable. I kept the Light Stars plot and essentially removed everything else. As I continued to develop the story, the deities became more and more interesting to me. So I wanted to focus the story on that specifically!

But tbh at this point- I'd actually grown tired of this version of SQ. I'd pretty much had it for almost a decade, and despite the giant story, it felt underbaked. It was made during a time where I was a different person than what I was now. I was much older and what I had come up with didn't interest me any more.

I had the urge to change the story- to give it an overhaul and make it something I would really be proud of.

2022-present: Star Quest!

And here we are! This is the current version of Star Quest!

In 2022, after a MASSIVE overhaul of the story I had planned- I created a new one. It had the same plot, Kris and friends saving the universe from Dark Energy, but I put more life into it.

One thing I noticed was that the cast I had didn't have much of... a personality. They did in fact have surface level personalities, but no backstories or backgrounds to flesh them out and make them feel like living and breathing characters. Another thing I noticed was the character designs. The designs I had for the cast- their silhouettes didn't really stick out. So I made a few changes and gave Purvall and Twizzle all new designs along with new backstories as well.

Honestly I'm really proud of the changes that I made- giving the whole comic a huge reset was a great choice!
